February 2025 President’s Message
A new year has begun and this is my 1st official message of the year as I was extremely sick a month ago. Much thanks to Dawn and Mike for getting our newsletter out last month without me.
Let me start out by acknowledging the passing of Frank Shearer. While I did not know Frank personally, I have enjoyed the stories that Mike has told about Franks participation in Drifter events and rides. I would encourage those of you who know Ruthie to reach out and invite her to future events, especially our monthly dinners. Perhaps as it warms up a bit, we can include a drive by their home on a ride to say hello to Ruthie.
Our Road Captain David Long is doing well in his road to recovery after surgery, he was able to drive his cage with his wife Tammy along for the ride when we rode to the Virgin River for the buffet in January. He is still a few weeks away from being able to swing a leg over his iron horse. We wish him a speedy recovery and a return to our weekly rides.
This time of year is a bit challenging coming up with our weekly rides and trying to go to different destinations with the constantly changing weather. If you have any Ideas on places to go for a nice warmer ride and of course a delicious meal, please speak up. A big thanks to Scott Blue for filling in for David as he recoups, Scott has done a great job changing up the recent rides.
As the new year gets going and we plan for our events this year, please feel free to submit any ideas you may have of rides to go on, events to attend that you have interest in, we can certainly consider all requests. A few have suggested overnight rides and different locations to visit. I myself would like to attend a few rallys like the Mayhem rally in April in Bullhead. There is also a Route 66 bike week in Golden Valley earlier that same week. The Panguitch rally happens in July, and the 4 corners rally in Durango the end of August.
Please continue to reach out to others in our community that you might see riding or in parking lots while shopping that you feel might be a good fit for our club and enjoy each other’s company and camaraderie. We could use some more company on our weekly rides.
